NBA Cup Frenzy

One year ago, the Lakers broke the Pacers’ hearts.

Tyrese Haliburton pushed the Pacers to the final with a semifinal knockout of the Bucks, posting a 27/15/7 stat line. Then Indiana ran into Anthony Davis and the Lakers in the final. AD put up 41 points, hauled down 21 rebounds and the Lakers claimed the inaugural In-Season Tournament and its multi-million dollar purse.

Let’s see what happens this year, huh? Second is the new first!

NBA Cup Frenzies

We’ll be getting into the action for the next iteration of the tournament with 2K Mobile’s NBA Cup Frenzies, which get started in the mobile game world on Nov 11.

In the real world, all 30 NBA teams are divided into six groups for several weeks of group play, before a knock-out round featuring the best teams. And similar to the NBA, in the mobile world, we’re running a six-week event featuring all of your favorite teams and exclusive reward chases. The challenges, and the rewards, keep getting better and better.

Along the way, competing in these tournament games also earns you opportunities to pull cards from the Shot Clock Challenge, a quick memory challenge to match the right cards.

How it Works

In each week’s Frenzy, you’ll pit your MyTeam players against the starting lineups – or one of the most prominent lineups – of all 30 teams. Champion Tokens are required to enter games, which you can collect in several ways – draft boards, daily free pack in Frenzy, events, Drills, Crew challenges (starting Nov 12), the daily gift at nba2kmobile.com on Tuesday and Friday each week (NBA Cup gamedays IRL), and weekly streaks at nba2kmobile.com/dailystreak.

Winning these games earns you medals and progress on the rewards track, along with Shot Clock Seconds and NBA Cup MVP trophy collectibles. This currency is used to craft MVP cards for the player that eventually wins the award IRL.

Thunder Opponent

There are multiple types of NBA Cup MVP cards to choose from, at different tiers, depending on how much MVP currency you have collected. You can get the best card, but you have to fight for it! You’ll need 100 items to craft a top-tier card, 80 for the second-highest tier, and so on.

These MVP cards will be identical in card art and image – just different in tier and PWR. Six total cards will be available, and another way to get the top-tier card is by collecting all five of the lower-tier cards. A Set will become available with these five cards as requirements.

These cards will be available for crafting starting Dec 18, during Week 6’s Frenzy. Packs in the store where you redeem the items for cards will be available through Dec 22.

Completing all 6 tournaments will earn 130 total MVP collectibles. Ten are available week 1, 15 in week 2, 20 in week 3, 25 in week 4, and 30 apiece in weeks 5-6.

In addition to the above, each week’s Shot Clock Challenge features a theme card as the chase. Cards will be from:

  • Week 1: Trios, featuring players from famous on-the-court trios.

  • Weeks 2 and 3: Fear the Beard, featuring players with long, glorious facial appendages.

  • Weeks 4-6: NBA Cup theme, featuring players from all 30 teams.

In addition to the tournament reward track, Seconds can be collected via draft boards, the daily free pack in Frenzy, events, and weekly streaks at nba2kmobile.com/dailystreak.

Odds and Ends

  • Each week’s tournament and SCC runs from Monday to Sunday.

  • We’re calling those Sundays “claiming days” as they’re the last chance for players to earn and claim rewards and use their Seconds and Tokens for the week. That’s important to understand – rewards must be claimed before the end of the week, and Shot Clock Seconds and Champion Tokens do not carry over to the following week. Rewards on the tournament track, including MVP collectibles, also need to be claimed before each Frenzy ends. These will not go to your mailbox automatically if left unclaimed.

  • NBA Cup MVP cards that you redeem starting Dec 18 will count for style bonus in the main event that starts Dec 19 (in addition to NBA Cup theme cards).

  • Week 5 and 6 Daily Streaks will look a little different than Weeks 1-4. Week 5 will have more Seconds and less Tokens, and Week 6 will have Seconds only (but more than previous streaks).

Game includes optional in-game purchases and paid random items.
